Happy March!!

Happy March! The month where Spring is finally sprung! It will be so nice to enjoy more time outside where we can do community walks and discover our neighbourhood as we are learning about Our Local Community in Social Studies. It is exciting to see how the children are gaining confidence in their reading skills and have such a love for it! Many of them are progressing so well and I thank you for your support of keeping up with their reading homework each and every night! The more they read, the better! In Writing, the children continue to work on comparing fiction and non fiction texts. They are finishing off their reports about animals and will begin learning about Opinion Writing. In Math, we are finishing off our Geometry unit and will move on to Patterns in Numbers and Data Management. The students really enjoy learning about the different sources of Energy in Science. Encourage them to tell you what are some of the different sources (eg. me, gasoline, electricity, batteries, wind) and have them find an example of that source being used in your home or anywhere in your community. We are past the half way point for Grade 1 and it's hard to believe how the time has flown! It's so rewarding to see how the children are developing their academic skills! This month will definitely put those skills into action!
