Happy Family Day! I hope everyone had a great long weekend!

This week we've started our new Social Studies unit about the Early Settlers that came to Canada. Last term, the students had learned about the Aboriginals and their culture and ways of life. We now are learning about where the Early Settlers came from, why they came to Canada and what parts of Canada they settled in.

Along with learning about Early Settlers, the children have been sharing stories about how their families/parents have immigrated to Canada. Please share with your children your experiences on when and why you came to Canada. They are making many connections as we see how many different families in our class chose Canada as their home. The students are able to empathize with the Early settlers who must have faced the fear of the unknown and possible dangers ahead.
