What's happening in September??

It was great to meet the parents and the families who had the opportunity to come out on Curriculum Night. The students have familiarized themselves with our class routine and have all adjusted well to a new grade and classroom. This month my Grade 1's have been learning about the Reading Strategy- "Lips the Fish" where we phonetically sound out the letter sounds in each word. The students have also been identifying Word Families. My Grade 2's are reviewing their punctuation and also reviewing sounding out sight words and writing detailed sentences. Our Reading Homework program has started and I would encourage parents to help remind your child to read their leveled book each night. Students should be reading each night in order to develop a love for reading, to help with identifying sight words and expanding their vocabulary. In Math, both Grades are working on the units of Number Relationships. Our Spelling program starts on September 18th where Grade 1's will be given 5 spelling words and Grade 2's will be given 10 words. Homework for spelling will be given on Monday and can be brought in on Thursdays. Our spelling tests will be done on Fridays. Thank you to the parents that have already expressed their support and encouragement! I'm looking forward to a great year of learning with your children!
