It's May!
Happy May! The flowers are growing, the sun is shining and the students are excited for the warmer weather. This month we are very busy with fun school events which include Walk to School Day and our upcoming Spring Concert. It's so neat to reflect back on how the children were adjusting to the grade 1 classroom and now they are almost finished the school year! In Language, the children continue to work on editing their work and creating detailed, super large sentences in all their writing. It's great to see how much more confidence they have in their writing skills and abilities. We are doing a lot of comprehension readings and retelling in order for students to not only know how to read but to understand and reflect on what they are reading. We've been learning about the Hand, Head and Heart questions in language class and I've been encouraging the children to reflect and make connections to what they are reading. In Math we continue to work on Place Value and also Word Problems. Our Science unit of Structures is very interesting for the children as we learn about different materials used and how structures are built. With the warmer weather, it's super important your child has a water bottle handy to stay at their desk all day for drink breaks. Please continue to remind your child to do their homework and reading each day. This will teach them responsibility and only help them in their academic success. Thank you all parents for your support!
