It's almost December!

The cold and snow has come--it feels like winter! Our Grade Ones continue to learn and practice their reading strategies and reading skills. It is exciting to see them improve in their reading and decoding! Please continue to help your child excel in reading by having them read at least 15 minutes each night. In Language, we are now reviewing blends and also the different sounds of the vowels. The children are learning about characters, settings and problems in stories. They are creating examples of beginning, middle and endings of stories. This upcoming month we will be making our very own Winter Stories which we look forward to sharing with each other over a cup of cocoa and then bringing home our stories for you to enjoy! In Science, we continue to learn about the life systems of humans, animals and plants. The children had a great time inventing their Science watering/planting tools that most of them brought home for you to see. In Math, we will soon be working on Addition and Subtraction to 12. We will be learning counting strategies to help children solve problems and equations. A reminder that it would be great if children have extra clothing kept in their lockers including mittens which easily get wet from the snow. Also, children are welcome to leave a water bottle at their desks to enjoy a drink of water whenever they wish. Thank you again to all your parents for your support and help so far this school year! :)
