Reading Homework Program
Thank you parents for helping your students with reading their books last night and filling in the Reading Record that was included! Your support and help is SO appreciated and beneficial!:) The children will be bringing home a different book each night. Please help them with sounding out the words, making predictions, asking questions along the way and also making connections to the book and their own experiences. Children need to reread their book at night to practice fluency and expression. At school this week, I am reviewing phonetic sounds and the children are also working on printing their alphabet letters. I have begun to teach the children reading strategies which will help them decode words and learn how to sound them out. This is always an uncertain time in Grade One since I hear a lot of "I don't know how to read this", but once they begin to practice the reading strategies, they will quickly begin to advance in their reading skills. I look forward to being a part of your child's growth and development! :)
